I am Sebastian Williams, a tattoo artist located in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Coming from an artistic background I have followed many different artistic paths that have left me with a broad range of skills. I am versatile as a result and always enjoy working in different styles however, I am and forever will be, a huge fan of doing illustrative designs. That being said, I don’t limit myself to just illustrative works. I quite simply love that I get to tattoo wonderful people that enjoy the work I can provide them.

Throughout his school years, he won many Art competitions and developed a strong interest in Tattoo Art from the age of 16 years. So commenced his self taught education in the Skin Art Industry. He quickly displayed above average ability in this field and was mentored by one of Christchurch’s leading Tattoo artists, Leonard Brown (an apprentice of Steve Johnston).

I have always been particularly drawn to black tattoos simply because I think they are the most beautiful. My journey to become a tattooist was somewhat different to some, and only really started when I travelled to Japan at 18 years old. There, I met tattooist Jun Matsui, who specialized in tribal tattoos. It was then and there that I considered for the first time,if I could also specialize in a style of tattoo that I loved-I would take this new path and did an apprenticeship under him.

In 2011 Tauafiafi opened his own studio, Taupou Tatau, on the corner of Dixon and Victoria Streets in Wellington. The studio comprises of fellow tatau artist Ishmael Jaco ‘J’ Augustine Schmidt, graffiti and tatau artist Bryan ‘Juse One’ Visala and the Killa Kut Krew barber collective. Tauafiafi’s designs frequently incorporate Samoan tatau patterning with elements from other cultures to create one-off works of art, a style he describes as ‘contemporary Polynesian’.
THE TATTOOED HEART is a world class tattoo and body piercing studio based in central Auckland.
