For my DJ services...my normal rate is $100 per hr plus travel...so a standard 4 hour gig normally books out for $*information hidden*I sometimes reduce rates for community service projects and fund raisers. Weddings also get special treatment considering the long duration of these celebration.

After making contact and offering a quote for the known hours of the event....I then try and personalize the experience. For weddings and birthday parties I always ask for top 20 fav songs...for other events I ask about themes...and ask for fav song lists from clients... I always make sure there budget is not stretched.

I started music training aged 4 years of age, was performing on stage from age 6, was playing in dance bands till I was 16 when realized that the band was not always able to play the songs right...so me playing the record we have been practicing too ended up being solution...it was not until 1975 I knew there was such a job as being a DJ...after a 2 year public relations job I turned to the only full time DJ I knew and joined him as a full time DJ...the rest is history....I worked in clubs...held monthly youth Discos....worked with Radio Stations during the release of Saturday Night Fever back in the late 70's..worked at Weddings...Dance parties...night clubs...street parties...community events...pop up parties...out door festivals..a lot of my work comes cause I also know and have a lot of experience in sound and lighting equipment....plus I have a really large collection of music tracks...dating back to when I started in the 70's. Oh by the way I have never found a school that can teach you as much as the school of life.

As I said...I was a teenager in a school band...we learnt to play songs by copying what we heard on records..this was back in the early 70's...some friday nights at school dances..the band did not always have the songs ready to play as a cover band...so I would spin the song instead...starting with one turntable...I never knew it was a job until *information hidden*..since then I have been spinning at every gig I can get.

Corporate event organizers... Wedding planners....wedding couples...families celebrating birthdays..night clubs that only use DJ's..Event planners for out door festivals, sports and social clubs.

Sorry I enjoy all the projects and gigs I do....lately I have taken to doing back ground music at local craft and farmers market days....playing music while my wife sells her wares...it is always without pay but it is fun to see people enjoy music they rarely hear on the radio any more...

Look for someone with experience and good gear and who listens to what you want. After all it is your party and you want what you want played....it is not the DJ's turn to play all of his fav songs all night long..

what budget do they have, what is the reason for their event, do they want to party..
