Obtaining a CAP serves to complete the training, validating a Professional Qualification Certification (CQP) as an automotive specialist mechanic or a Complementary Mention (MC) in maintenance of embedded automotive systems or maintenance of diesel engines and their equipment. There is also the diploma of the STI Mechanical Engineering Baccalaureate, with an option in motorized systems (Industrial Sciences and Technologies), and the Bac Pro (Professional Baccalaureate) in Maintenance of Automobile Vehicles with an option in Private Cars. It is possible to obtain a BTS (Brevet de Technicien Supérieur) in Vehicle Maintenance with an option in motorcycles or a BTS in Automotive Maintenance and After-Sales with an option in private cars, to obtain a Bac+2 diploma. The future mechanic can also pursue a Bac+3 study to obtain a bachelor's degree in mechanical production engineering. Other courses, such as professional mechanic training (Professional Title), automotive diagnostic training, and rapid mechanical service operator training, are also possible for becoming a mechanic. They must also have good communication skills, versatility, and physical resistance. Being skilled in manual dexterity, good diagnostic skills, and being autonomous are also necessary qualities and skills needed to become a reputable mechanic. They must follow safety instructions and be able to work in a team.

What is the scope of work for an automotive mechanic?

The automotive repair services suggested by a mechanic vary depending on their specialization. Among the specializations are trailer mechanics, diesel mechanics, vintage car mechanics, and hydraulic mechanics or hydraulics specialists. Generally, the main role of an automotive mechanic is to repair various problems in motor vehicles. They can examine the vehicle by conducting electronic, mechanical, and electrical tests. They check the oil change, battery, tires, spark plugs, power steering fluid, fuel filter, brakes, coolant, engine belts, and timing belts. In case of a problem, they can change the brake disc and pad, tire, shock absorber, exhaust pipe, oil filter, and perform an oil change. They are also knowledgeable in repairing the bodywork, engine, clutch, gearbox, alternator, and air conditioning. Wheel alignment and engine reprogramming are part of their areas of expertise. They may be required to change a windshield, weld parts, and reassemble a mirror or bumper. Additionally, an automotive mechanic can handle the sale and ordering of spare parts. They are willing to adjust the clutch, brake fluid, and transmission fluid for automatic gearboxes. They can perform vehicle tests on the bench and on the road. They are capable of providing mobile or garage automotive repair services. They can also work in a sales and rental center or in a maintenance center with a team of mechanics, technicians, and bodyworkers under the responsibility of a workshop manager. If necessary, an automotive mechanic can also perform sanding, filling, dent removal, and painting work. Their services are also targeted at car dealerships, rental agencies, transport companies, and car manufacturers.

Anything else the automobile mechanician should know?
Was diagnosed with a small leak in the Fuel Pump, not sure if it is the hose or the actual pump. I don't know if I need to get the pump shipped away to be fixed or if it can be fixed in the shop..Was shuddering very heavily last time I drove it and loses power. Also the clutch feels weird. Would like a quote to see if its worth repairing or selling for parts. Thank you!
